PostSubject: Seaton Delaval mausoleum - May 2012   Seaton Delaval mausoleum - May 2012 EmptyWed Jul 04, 2012 5:50 am

Coz I'm morbid and love underground stuff, this was right up my street!
Guna be honest, there's not much to see but it was still a good explore! It's obviously a hive of charva activity (which lets be honest, if you were 15 and there was an under ground crypt at the end of your street, it's prolly where you'd do your underage drinking too!)
I'm not sure why the national trust havnt done anything with this yet, I know it's not long since they became in the possession of delaval hall, but I would've thought this came with it, unless over the years the land it's on has been sold off seperately and it now stands redundant in some farmer who couldnt give two hoots about his heritages field (or his fields heritage, lol) seems a shame such a beautiful builing just standing there doing nowt!

A bit of history Seaton (or Sea town to give it it's Sunday name) Deleval hall was erected in 1728 by the wacky and unforunate De La Val family. The mausoleum was built with space for 42 bodies About half a mile east of the hall. It's thought it was built for John Delaval by his father after he died in 1775 age 20 after being kicked in a vital organ by a laundry maid whom he was giving unwanted attention to. She must have been a cracking shot.
They were all a bit mad the Delavals, and very unlucky. Admiral George Delaval died by getting his foot caught in his horses stirrup and being dragged round the grounds and another by falling down the stairs after a few too many jeiger bombs (it hasnt been confirmed that this was his bevvy of choice)

No bodies are believed to have been held in the crypt, for what reason I'm not sure, maybe the local charvas were just too much to put up with Wink it does appear that the local goths have been making the most of it however, as signs of 'Satan worshipping' were everywhere! Go on you goffs, what better place to summon the dark lord than an unused crypt that stinks of spray paint, piss and booze!

And so on with my pictures.....

Granted there's more external shots here but to be honest there's not that much to see in the crypt, the outsides much prettier!

Cheers for looking Smile

Nice little explore, this place is. We had some nightime wire wool fun there a while back with Nic81 and TheStig.

I do love a bit of wire wool, me. farao

I actually had a bit of a chuckle to the "dildo" photo, I love nonsensical graffiti.

Nice photos and report there, wouldn't mind taking a look here, looks interesting. Shame it's become a charva den, that seems to happen with too many places Sad

EDIT: Just found out a mate of mine lives in Delavel. Might have to drag him along with me Wink
