Ushaw college - Durham - May 2012

A site that's clearly been done to death but a lovely place to visit with the potential for some great shots (from someone that's not me obviously, I just got some mediocre ones!) 
Had a laugh getting into Ushaw, we were ready to give up (everyone else was, I knew there was a way in, we just had to find it! Also, to anyone planning a trip, watch out for the geese/pheasants on the grounds, they're scarier than any security guard I've ever come across!

The history bit, im sure you all know it well by now.... Ushaw college was a roman catholic priest seminary, which began being built in 1804, and were opened in 1808. The chapel thats there today was opened in 1884, which replaced an earlier one. It closed in 2011 although it looks like its been standing still a lot longer than that. Part of the site now belongs to Durham business school. We stayed away from that bit! Can anyone answer why a seminary college needs prison style bars on the doors and windows and abandoned wheel chairs, is it just to make it mor creepy and photogenic for us urbexers?

Well, on with my pics, I'm guna go back soon coz I didn't get in the chapel, didn't wana risk breaking anything by climbing on it but after seeing MrD's photos from the same day I realised I'd missed the real gem!
